History and Information

The Northallerton Equestrian Centre is a family business owned by John & Tracy Walker since 1998 and located near Yafforth in beautiful Lower Swaledale in the heart of Herriot country, yet only 10 minutes from the A1 and just 3 miles from Northallerton, one of the most attractive market towns in North Yorkshire.

The Centre comprises 25 acres of grassland and a small wood. It offers the largest indoor riding school in the area (60m x 30m). It is affiliated with British Dressage and the British Show Jumping Association and is also licensed by the Local Authority.

In 1998 the NEC was dilapidated with few facilities.  However, over the last ten years John and Tracy have maintained a continuous programme of investment, which has seen the entire site develop into a successful competition centre.  The approach road and yard now have tarmac surfaces; a new outdoor arena was built in 2001 with amphitheatre banking and professional lighting; an attractive grass competition arena was added in 2002; a food bar was added in 2004; a x-country course was developed in 2005, which now includes a water jump as well as a ditch; a new gallery with seating for 200 was constructed in 2007 in the indoor school, which boasts one of the best surfaces in the area.   Also in 2007, the InTouch centre for alternative treatments for animals and humans was also established, which opened on 1st September.  Next in line for development are a new toilet block and a new covered arena.

Under the new management of Caz Pring, these facilities are now attracting many new customers, adding hugely to our varied portfolio of services to the equestrian community.  In addition to the full range of affiliated and unaffiliated dressage and showjumping competitions, you will find on this site information about lecture/demonstrations and clinics, unaffiliated one day events, instruction from highly qualified instructors, shows, gradings, and fun events.  So don’t be shy.  Come and join in.
