John and Tracy Walker have both served many years in the Army. They were serving near Ripon in 1997 when they discovered the Northallerton Equestrian Centre whilst looking for opportunities to invest in the area. At the time it was up for sale and a turkey farmer was the only contender!
Although the Centre had suffered from lack of investment for a number
of years it had two advantages. Firstly, it was clearly a necessary
facility for the many horse riders in the area. Secondly, the potential
for expansion and improvement was huge. They formed a company (Leisuredale
Ltd) and bought the Centre in May 1998. Since then they have been gradually
building it up.
